Queen Elizabeth II

1926 – 2022

“The sincere thoughts and condolences from myself, Silloth on Solway Town Council, along with the town of Silloth are with the members of the Royal family following the announcement of the death of our late sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II.

Providing leadership for over 70 years, our Queen was a truly remarkable monarch, who demonstrated an extraordinary dedication and commitment to duty throughout her reign.

Admired and loved across the world our sadness is shared throughout, as we take time to remember with affection and gratitude the lifetime of service given by our longest reigning monarch.

We will stand united with the nation in mourning at the loss of our Queen.

A book of condolences and a designated area of memorial, for wreaths and flowers will be available for all residents and details can be found on our website and social media sites.”

Cllr. Mark Orchard, Mayor of Silloth

Flag protocol

As a mark of respect, flags around the county are being flown at half-mast until the day following the funeral, except while the Proclamation of the new King is made.  The flag will fly at half-mast at the Community Garden on Silloth Green during the period of mourning.

Flowers

If you wish to lay flowers or other suitable tributes, they can be left in the grounds of Christ Church on Criffel Street, at the front of the church to the left-hand side. We would kindly ask that all plastic and cellophane wrapping is removed. These tributes will be carefully removed within one week of the state funeral and floral tributes in good condition will be offered to local care homes or composted. Other tributes will be disposed of sensitively and appropriately.

Book of Condolence

Condolence books will be situated around the county in key community buildings. The list of locations is available on the Cumbria County Council website.

A book of condolence has been opened in Christ Church on Criffel Street and in Silloth Library, Liddell St, Silloth, CA7 4DD for your thoughts and memories.

Condolences can also be left online on the Buckingham Palace e-Book, which can be found on the Buckingham Palace website at https://www.royal.uk/.

Proclamation

Proclamations will be held around the country to announce the new sovereign.

In Cumbria, the County proclamation will be held in Carlisle, followed by District Proclamations in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Whitehaven and Workington. Further details will be provided via the Cumbria County Council website.

It is an opportunity to come together and reflect on the moment in our nation’s history.  You are very welcome to attend.
