1st – 7th June – Volunteers’ Week

The 1st – 7th June marks Volunteers’ Week in the UK.  I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Town Council, to pass on our thanks and continued admirations for the work volunteers do in Silloth.

Volunteers are an integral part of the town and play a part in day to day life in Silloth. From gardening, saving lives, organising events, raising funds and the list goes on.

I would like to personally highlight the work of the Silloth on Solway Charity Shop. The volunteers in the shop have raised and granted in excess of £123,000 since January 2017. These grants are allocated by a committee to local groups to help and support their running. Undoubtably in some way most of Silloth will have benefited from an organisation or event they have helped fund and continue to support.

I wouldn’t like to think what Silloth would be like without its army of volunteers working tirelessly 365 days a year.

Cllr Owen Martin

Mayor of Silloth on Solway
